LETTERS FROM THE CHAIRS
Dear Delegates,
Welcome to the Genesis Accord Special Crisis Committee at DAMUN XVII! I am Aajman Chowdhury, and I am very excited to be your committee co-chair. We hope this will produce amazing results at the conference this year. This committee combines the formal procedures of the UN with the time-sensitive responses in crisis situations; at one time you will be negotiating treaty language and the next reacting to a divine ultimatum.
Regardless of whether your delegate represents a Nation-State within the 25 countries or one of the 10 Ascended Individuals, you must utilize the same skills to succeed in this room as in any typical Model UN committee. Those include research, diplomacy, clear writing, and being quick-thinking and adaptable enough when the situation changes rapidly. Delegates who read the background briefing thoroughly will be greatly helped, but they must not stop there. Try to reflect on how real-world debates on emerging technology, civil liberties, and the balance of power between the individual and the state might shape the character's position.
If you have any questions before the conference, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at aajman.c@gmail.com. I can't wait to see the alliances, betrayals, and resolutions this committee produces.
Good luck, and see you in committee!
Aajman C.
Dear Delegates,
My name is Sachin S., and I am very delighted to work with you as a co-chair of the Genesis Accord committee this year! This is a different type of committee by far: it asks you to combine two different ways of thinking at once — one that is deliberate and procedural, akin to that of a diplomat, and another that is open to adaptation when the situation changes dramatically.
I encourage each and every delegate to come into the committee prepared, no matter their level of experience, and to embrace the chaos these kinds of committee simulations create. Research and get to know your assigned nation or Ascended Individual; get a grip on what motivates them and what means they have at their disposal to get what they want (leverage). And, most importantly, be able to protect and promote your interests even as new facts surface during the committee, which could shift the dynamics.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions at sachinsathya20@gmail.com. I'm looking forward to seeing the strategy, drama, and diplomacy you all bring to this committee!
Good luck and have fun!
Sachin S.
